Preferences and Representations

There have been a few things to come to mind recently, about myself especially.

One of those things is with regard to my own interests. If you were to ask me what my favorite movie or book or genre of music was, I'd tell you to ask a better question -- mostly because I didn't have an answer come to mind.

But there are things that stick out to me. For example, a lot of the things that I like now are things that I took interest in or remembered from when I was in the single digits. Games, a particular movie, a song that comes up... oddly I don't think I can warrant a favorite to books, but honestly.

I guess it just... took this long for me to really think of myself as a person of preferences. That, and the ones I made up have seemed to change a bit too. I've said green was my favorite color for almost a decade at this point, but clearly this site is not mostly green. It might be that I think purple works better for grays and darks and lights, but... what if I just actually like purple? Except, even then, I could tie that to the same reasoning I had for liking green so much, so where's the validity?

What about pizza though? I know that's an easy pick for me, but I honestly don't mind a bowl of chicken noodle soup, or a plate of arroz con gandules or platanos maduros or SOMETHING else. Maybe pizza stood out because it's something you see more often in media..?

...Which reminds me of something else: I know very little about a lot of cultures that exist throughout the world. Even worse, this includes those of my own. That means that, as I create characters inspired by particular regions (cough, cough, most Cocignians and folks from the Human Plane) might not actually rep the cultures they represent as well as they oughta. I'm unsure if I'd simply do the research myself or if I should try and find people from worldwide to talk to about these things, but having that global awareness is going to be really helpful, especially with how things are now.

Well, that's all I thought today. Take care, y'all. Oh, and happy 40 weeks!
